Chimney
Relining and Venting
If
you have a chimney now, it may or may not be used to service the appliance you
want to purchase. A chimney must never serve more than one appliance.
Appliances may never share flues. You may choose to hire a certified
chimney sweep to perform an inspection. Most sweeps have video inspection
equipment that allow them to record what is found on tape and shown to you later
in your living room.
Regardless,
all woodstoves perform better if a 6" exhaust is used from the stove
top to the top of the flue. Freestanding woodstoves as well as wood fireplace
inserts benefit from a stainless steel liner. The liner will increase
and conserve the flue temperature making startup faster and easier, having
less creosote formation, and offer an additional level of
safety.
If
you don’t have a chimney, one must be constructed. A metal "class
A" chimney system from Limeport Hearth and Stoves will cost about 25% of a masonry chimney
and will perform better. These chimney systems can be constructed in a day or
so using basic construction tools and skills. By following all local codes and
manufacturers instructions a proper woodstove chimney
installation will serve you faithfully for years to come.
Pellet
stoves require a smaller pipe/vent and therefore can be easily installed in
a matter of hours. Pellet stoves also require hearth pads for floor protection.
Corner installations are made easy with the use of elbows and wall thimbles.
Pellet stoves have minimal clearances to combustibles and are great for
space saving situations. A pellet stove can use an existing chimney, providing
one is available. Since pellet stoves are so efficient, they have a low
exhaust gas temperature. To expedite these gases out of your chimney,
we highly recommend a chimney liner. Pellet stoves use a 3"
or 4" stainless steel liner that connects to the pellet stove and extends
to the top of your chimney.
The staff at Limeport Hearth and Stoves
are committed to offering quality products that support better operation of
our stoves. Although liners are generally not required, they are almost
always recommended. Your stove will perform better and provide a higher
level of satisfaction. We
always have the most popular lengths of liner in stock, and can special order any size or length your installation requires.
